Dresden Sales Guide 2012/2013
For centuries, it was the magnificent residence of the Wettin royal family. Today, Dresden is one of the most beautiful baroque cities in Europe – and a bustling metropolis at the same time. Because of its wealth of tradition and exquisite setting in the Elbe valley, the city was long ago dubbed “the German Florence”. It has since developed into a modern city, the attraction of which is based in equal measure on its many artistic and cultural treasures as well as its progressive and broad-based scientific and industrial prowess. Dresden is a beautiful city that is constantly changing and never ceases to offer its visitors new aspects to discover.
Many new art and science highlights will converge in 2012. The Military History Museum will open in its newly-renovated historical complex designed by star architect Daniel Libeskind and the Dresden State Art Collections will celebrate the 500th anniversary of Raffael’s “Sistine Madonna” from the Old Masters Gallery. Under the motto “Heart of Europe”, the 35th Dresden Music Festival 2012 is devoted to the music of the Baroque era in the Vienna-Prague-Budapest triangle.
In 2013 the Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments in the Zwinger will reopen after years of major renovation.
We’ll be happy to keep you informed about all the city’s 2012/2013 highlights and the wealth of tourism activities in and around Dresden.
